Stagnant Water Bodies Pollution II

This volume gathers a selection of contributions presented during the Seminar “Stagnant Water Bodies Pollution II,” convened by the IdRA (Institut de Recerca de l’Aigua) of the University of Barcelona in October 2014. The seminar is part of a series of specialized meetings organized by the Institute to address water-related topics that have not been recently explored in depth.

Faithful to the Institute’s interdisciplinary mission, the book includes chapters covering a wide range of perspectives and case studies: from the management of seasonal reservoirs in Sicily to dam removal practices in the United States; from legal frameworks surrounding water infrastructures to environmental solutions like managed aquifer recharge and the use of constructed wetlands and lagoons for river water quality improvement in Spain. The interconnection between water and energy, particularly in the context of reversible dams, is also examined, offering a multifaceted view on stagnant water bodies and their management challenges.
